EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 11: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mahbooba Mufti's reluctance to attend all party meeting on July 12 has evoked reactions ranging from critical to scornful. Her reluctance evoked a reaction from the Chief Minister as well. He told her to be part of the solution by ensuring her participation in the meeting. According to Omar, She will figure amongst the `mischief mongers' by staying away from the `important meeting'. To put it in George Bush's words, Mahbooba has to be with Omar for restoration of peace. The choice is limited! Mufti responded by addressing a press conference at her residence. Political heavyweights stay aloof, leaving Omar in lurch?
7/12/2010 1:15:04 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 11 : While the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is trying hard to build back what he himself admits the 'dented' credibility of his government on present situation, some politicians, most of whom are veterans have chosen to stay aloof . While Kashmir remained in flare up for days together, these politicians from both the ruling allies, watching the scene from distance did not even deem it proper to utter a word in support, leave alone making statements on their own. While there are many such leaders from both the parties who became conspicuous by their reticence, the absence of veterans from the 'burning picture' was too conspicuous not to be noted by the ...

Jammu & Kashmir: A tale of two provinces
7/12/2010 1:14:37 AM
RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 11 : Kashmir is all powerful. It has been ruling the state since 1947. It has been enjoying unbridled and extraordinary powers since October 1947. It is not accountable to any authority in India. Those in Kashmir who are ruling the state and fighting against the Indian State are above law. No one can ever dare to question them because it is the general belief that questioning them would mean "more alienation" in Kashmir. In fact, the more Kashmir cries, the more it willfully bleeds itself and the more it bungles the more the money it gets from the overgenerous New Delhi. In fact, New Delhi pumps in billions and billions of rupees in Kashmir to keep i...

Pak behind Kashmir turmoil, problem
7/12/2010 1:13:47 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 11: This is the Kashmir's political scene, which stands dotted with innumerable violent incidents. But the question to be asked is: Will the authorities in the state and at the Centre learn lessons from the past mistakes and refrain from airing views which have the potential of prompting the anti-India forces in Kashmir to add more fuel to the fire and undo the efforts the authorities so far have put in to bring the situation under control? Regrettably, the answer is not in the affirmative. On the contrary, it appears that both the State Government and the Central Government are out to further complicate the already rather complex situation in the terrorist a...
