4/15/2015 11:40:11 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 15: Former Minister and NCP chief Thakur Randhir Singh NCP said that nearly six decades after Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar’s death, the political parties are scrambling to own Ambedkar's legacy.
In a statement issued here, he said under Congress's long decades of hegemony and dominance of Nehrubian preference meant that other leaders who tried a different path like Subhash Chander Bose , S Bhagat Singh , Dr Ambedkar and many more were gradually left out in the official myth in making of the new nation. He said Dr Ambedkar was the architect of the India's constitution but his own Elphstone College in Mumbai, for example missed his name in a list of illustrious students on a plaque of alumni of the college it is shocking commented Mr Singh . The political parties should remember that simply garlanding Dr Ambedkar's photos and naming monuments after him will be tokenist.
He further said Dr Ambedkar celebrations are welcomed not just because he was dalit leader but also because he was a great freedom fighter, legal luminary with a great vision how India was to be made a world power. On many issues Dr Ambedkar differ with dominant Gandhi - Nehru policies.
