Experiment was doomed to failure, says Subramanian Swami | Open sedition in the streets of Srinagar | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 15: It was expected that Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who returned to Srinagar today after his two-month-long stay in Delhi where he had also openly hobnobbed Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Bashit, and the release of terrorist Masarat Alam from jail would create a dangerous situation in the valley and it did happen. Geelani addressed a huge anti-India rally in Srinagar where Alam raised Pakistan flag and many seditionists raised pro-Pakistan and pro-Azadi and anti-India slogans. All this happened under the very nose of the law and order authorities. The scene the seditionists created was similar to the ones the people across the country witnessed in early 1990 which led to the exodus of over three lakh Kashmiri Hindus. The worst part was not that the law and order authorities allowed Geelani, Masarat and their supporters to organize anti-India rally. The worst part was that the BJP reacted very meekly while responding to the media queries. A local BJP spokesperson (Arun Gupta) told a Delhi-based leading news channel that "we will look into the episode" and that "the party leadership will take appropriate steps". He didn't say anything about the mishandling of the situation. It was one of BJP national spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao who tried to state his party's position. He criticized the holding of anti-India rally saying "it was unacceptable". He disappointed everyone when he also said that the "state government should take cognizance of the anti-India event and take appropriate action". He didn't say that the BJP was part of the government, which was equally responsible for allowing the situation to deteriorate in the Valley. Another BJP national spokesperson Saina NC said that "our stand is clear". "We have an agenda of Alliance. There are going to be speed brakers. Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and party president Amit Shah have stated umpteen times that they will not allow anything anti-India happening in the state," she said. For her, like other party spokespersons, it was not an extraordinary situation that warranted immediate action. However, it was the party's senior leader Subramanian Swami, who only a few days ago had taken on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and questioned his decision to purchase some war planes from France in the manner he did, who came down very heavily on his own party. "The experiment was doomed to failure. What happened in Srinagar today was atrocious and utterly unacceptable. Today evening, I am meeting certain BJP leaders. I will discuss with them what steps could be taken to retrieve the fast-deteriorating situation in the Valley. The situation is horrible," he told a news channel while giving his response to the today's anti-India event. Will the national BJP leadership and the BJP government at the centre, which is bound to defend the national security and maintain the unity and integrity of India, muster courage and take action ensuring the decimation of the fissiparous tendencies in Kashmir? If one goes by the responses of the cornered BJP spokespersons, then it can be said nothing will be done by the BJP to maintain law and order in the Valley or nothing will be done to rein in separatists and extremists. Meanwhile, the Congress and the National Panthers Party have condemned the BJP for adopting a "very soft approach" towards Kashmiri separatists and pro-Pakistan forces and, like many strategic and defence affairs experts demanded "dismissal" of the state government, saying "it has failed to discharge its obligation towards the country". |
