Kissan unions stage protest against Revenue department

Kathua, Apr 15: Several Kissan Unions of district Kathua today staged series of protest demonstration at different venues and criticizes the Revenue department for conducting survey to prepare estimate for damaged crops in recent hailstorms/ rains.
Kissan Union Marheen blocked National Highway at Rajbagh and shouted slogans against negligence of revenue department for not conducting surveys which would vary estimate of damaged crops as Kharif crop is ready for harvesting and farmer would harvest within days but no revenue officer reached to review the damaged crops.
His 3 acre land has been completely damaged in recent rain and they have to pay EMIs which would not be possible without compensation from government for damaged crops. He said Rabi crop is still dumped due to low price, lack of procurement and Kharif has been completely damaged.
Lal Singh, another farmer, alleged on Revenue officers for not conducting survey and they are still to visit in the village to make estimate. He said damaged crops not only destroy the fertility of the land but also make hard for farmer to survive.
In another protest at Kathua, S. Shamsher Singh, a farmer said Agriculture minister has visited in Kathua and instructed the department to review the existing situation but his instructions have been deliberately ignored and no officers reached in their agriculture land till day. He said Minister talked about immediate compensation for damaged crops but asked how it's possible when revenue officers will not send report to the ministry.
All Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Tehrik Forums today organized a huge protest at Ram Lila where large number of farmers reached and expressed concern over deficiency in the working of Revenue department.
The large number of farmers hailing from District Kathua raised demand of apposite compensation for the affected crops due to recent rains/ hailstorms. The protest was led by Guro Ram, district President of the forum. He said Forum recently held a protest rally and submitted a memorandum to DDC Kathua for compensation but no action has been taken till date.
Congress party also held protest demonstration in Kathua under the leadership of Babu Singh, Ex Power Minister and expressed concern over losses. Babu Said the government should compensate all irrespective of KCC holders. He said fair estimate list must be prepared to provide apposite compensation at right hand and proper time.
It is pertinent to mention here that One Tara Chand, 47 yrs old today died at village Chapki Kurd, Sub division Hiranagar, District Kathua due to continual harassment by bank. He was in depression for last few days. The incident occurred when bank officials pressurized the victims to reimburse bank loan but he could not to do so due to damage of agriculture crops in recent rains/ hailstorms.
Tehsildhar Kathua made several excuses to veil the negligence and said Girduars & Patwaris are busy in official work as Girduri making session is going on. He said Instructions have been passed to each field officer to make estimate for damaged crop and compensation will be given to each affected farmer accordingly.
