Jammu, Apr 15: The Department of English, Central University of Jammu organized one-day regional seminar on the topic "Bahishkrit Bharat: Remembering Babasahib." According to press release, the seminar was organized to commemorate Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on his 124th birth anniversary. The seminar began with a tribute to Dr. Ambedkar by Raj Gaurav Verma, Assistant Professor, Department of English. Speaking about the life of Baba Sahib, he deliberated upon the contribution of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar in creating Dalit consciousness. Prof. Nandini Bhattacharaya, Head, Department of English, spoke on the concept of "Genealogy of Caste." She elucidated that the concept of upper caste and lower caste does not exist. Dr. Shaveta Kohli from the Department of Economics spoke about the contribution of Baba Sahib in the upliftment of Dalit community and women. Dr. M.A.A Farooq, Asst. Professor, Department of English, highlighted the participation of Dr. Ambedkar in various Dalit movements like Mahad Satyagrah. Raj Thakur, Asst. Professor, Department of English, enthralled the audience with recitation of the poem, "Ode to Ambedkar" by Namdeo Dhasal. He said that Dr. Amberkar was a messiah of the marginalized sections of society. Students and scholars from various departments of the University were present in the seminar. The paper presentation session was followed by a question-answer session in which Scholars asked many thought provoking questions pertaining to the caste system and implementation of various government policies for the marginalized sections of society. The seminar concluded on the suggestive note that the University must create space for deliberations on mechanics of social inclusion. |
