Mahore block to be developed as modern walnut production zone | | | Early Times Report Reasi, May 16: The Mahore block to be shaped for producing high yielding varieties of walnut production by the Horticulture Department; this was stated by the Director Horticulture Jammu, A.K. Sharma while addressing the fruit growers and locals at village Shajroo in Mahore. According to press release, on this occasion, Chief Horticulture Officer, Reasi-Susheel K Angurana, field functionaries of Horticulture department, members of PRIs and large number of locals were also present on the occasion. Sharma advised the farmers to establish vermicompost units, vermibeds, Polygreen houses, use of Biopesticide, Biofertilizers and adoption of organic farming so that their horticulture produce is certified by Participatory Guarantee system and third party certification taken up by the department for good return of the produce. Sharma explained the modern techniques for producing grafted walnut plants in the low cost green house to increase the walnut production substantially by reducing gestation period of plants produced from perennial seed. He further added that the Horticulture department will provide necessary training to the growers for canopy management of the fruit trees and also to convert the inferior verities to superior cultivars to increase the quality. The department will also facilitate to get license for sale of quality pesticide in the area as demanded by the growers of Shajroo area During the meeting the farmers projected various problems faced by them in horticulture related activities and also stressed to setup a fruit mandi in their area so that their produce is marketed at reasonable price. |
