2 months on, NABARD projects worth Rs 250 Cr fail to take off | Work on 49 roads, 4 bridges yet to begin | | Arun Singh Early Times Report
Jammu, May 16: The lackadaisical attitude of State Government for not carrying out development works on time can be well gauged from the fact that despite the lapse of two months, projects worth Rs 250 Cr sanctioned by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development have not begun. Sources told Early Times that National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) had sanctioned projects worth Rs 250 crore in March 2015 comprising 49 roads and 4 four bridges across the State but projects could not be taken off due to slackness on the part of concerned department as the tendering process has yet to initiate. "The initial process of tendering has not been started by the concerned department even as more than two months have passed" they said further adding that the reason for withholding the tender process is well known to authority concerned. Out of above mentioned projects, nearly Rs 150 crore of projects fall in Jammu province and remaining fall in Kashmir region. In Jammu some projects have to be executed in hilly snow bound districts where the work can be executed only for three months and moreover the current season is very suitable for executing road and bridges work but undue delay is depriving the people of these areas with road connectivity, they alleged. "Generally it has been seen that the process is initiated at the end of financial year just for the clearance of bills that too without executing it," sources alleged. Ironically, prolonged delay on part of government leads to cost escalation, which directly puts extra burden on exchequer. Moreover, the political interference also plays spoils sport in the initiation of developmental work, they added. |
