Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 16: BJP MP in the Rajya sabha, Shamsher Singh Manhas, has lost confidence in Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and Cabinet Minister Sukhnandan Choudhary. It appears that he had no faith in these two Cabinet Ministers, both BJP leaders, became clear on Friday. On Friday, he met with patron of PDP and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and practically lodged a complaint against Nirmal Singh and Sukhnandan Choudhary. During the meeting, which took place at Jammu, Manhas urged the Chief Minister to do something to ensure that there was no shortage of drinking water and power.
The people of Jammu province are facing acute shortage of drinking water and suffering due to scheduled and unscheduled power cuts. The situation is likely to worsen in the coming days when heat wave will sweep Jammu. It is ironical that while the people of Jammu province pay more power tariff and water charges as compared to their counterparts in Kashmir, they do not get water on regular basis and have to do without electricity for hours together in a day. The situation in the rural Jammu is all the more pathetic.
It is not the Chief Minister who holds the portfolio of unpopular and in-bad-shape Power Development Department and Public Health Engineering (PHE). Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh holds the PDD portfolio and Sukhnanadan Choudhary the portfolio of PHE. Shamsher Singh should have met with them and asked them to take necessary steps to ensure regular water supply and round-the-clock power supply, but he did otherwise. He met with the Chief Minister who was not competent to do what ShamsherSingh wanted him to do.
That he bypassed Nirmal Singh and Sukhnandan Choudhary and met with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on the day when he declared that artificial lake in Jammu was not feasible clearly indicated that Manhas had no faith in Nirmal Singh and Sukhnandan Choudhary. His meeting with the Chief Minister suggested that Nirmal Singh and Sukhnandan Choudhary were just incompetent or that they had no say in the government or they were good for nothing.
