Anti-India Geelani becomes Indian to get passport | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 16: The Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who leaves no opportunity to indulge in anti-India activities at the behest of his bosses sitting across the Line of Control, has applied for an Indian passport as he intends to travel to Jeedah in Saudia Arabia to meet his ailing daughter. Sources told Early Times that Geelani, along with his wife and son, has submitted online application form for the issuance of the passports in their favour. "Geelani and his wife have mentioned that one of their daughters, Farhat Jabeen Geelani, who stays in Jeddah is suffering from ill health and that the visit is purely personal and not a political one." Geelani has mentioned that he along with his wife would leave for Jeddah as soon as possible so as to inquire about the ailing health of his daughter. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "It's obvious that while filling up the online application form for the passport Geelani sahib would have had to fill the column mentioning his nationality as Passport office does not accept the incomplete forms. As per the law of the land Geelani sahib had to mention his nationality as Indian." Sources said that there was no mistake in Geelani's form as all the columns were filled neatly and the Hurriyat hawk has clearly mentioned his nationality as Indian to ensure that form is not rejected for any reason. "If Geelani sahib wants to see his ailing daughter he should be allowed to go as it's an humanitarian issue but before passport is given to him an assurance has to be sought from him that he won't turn his personal trip into a political one," opined a PDP leader and a close aide of the Chief Minister Miufti Mohammad Sayeed. He said that Geelani had a valid reason to visit Jeedah as his daughter has reportedly suffered a stroke. "India is a big country and it has a large heart there is every possibility about he (Geelani) being given his travel documents on the humanitarian grounds. If Geelani assures that he won't indulge in anti-India activities and would refrain from meeting people from Pakistan in Jeedah everyone would like to plead his case and request the Government of India (GoI) to allow him to go ahead with his trip," the CM's aide added. He said that State Government before giving its nod to clear Geelani's passport wants to make certain issues clear to him. "Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed believes in reconciliation but his softness and gentle approach should not be taken as his weakness," he added. The politician said the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who is also Home Minister of the state, despite facing opposition from all sides had allowed Geelani to address rallies at Hyderpora in Srinagar and at Tral in south Kashmir but waving of Pakistan flags and rallies turning into an anti-India shows had embarrassed the Chief Minister. "Geelani would have to assure Mufti that he would not make any attempt to politicize his trip to Jeedah and would keep his trip confined to meeting his daughter," he added. An official of the Srinagar passport officer said that Geelani's application would be processed like any others. "Given his age and health, we can expedite processing of his papers but he has to follow the rules though," the official added. |
