Early Times Report

Kulgam, May 16: With the officials dumping the nutrition supply meant for Anganwari Centers, New Delhi sponsored scheme Integrated Child development Scheme (ICDS) meant for the development of children seems to be failing in Damhal-Hanjipora project of district Kulgam.
Official sources told Early Times that the concerned Project officer has dumped the nutrition meant for the existing centers, which was supplied to the project before three months.
"In the Month of Feburary and March nutrition was supplied to the department but after the passage of over three months now, the concerned CDPO has not passed on the nutrition to the Anganwari Centers," said official whishing anonymity.
He accused officials of the project of succumbing under political pressure.
"It is astonishing that the department has dumped the nutrition instead of supplying to the Anganwari centers. Government must act against the involved officials," said Mohammad Amin, a local resident, adding none of the center has received supply from last six months.
He said that from last year Anganwari Centers of the DH-Pora are without nutrition supply due to unknown reasons. "Whenever we ask locals employees about the nutrition supply they simply tell us that the government hasn't supplied them the same," he added.
Official sources said that major quantity of the nutrition meant for the children have already crossed expiry date while as remaining quantity was nearing the expiry date.
"Biscuit is one major quantity of the nutrition supply and the expiry period of the same is just one month so it got expired and children were deprived from the same," said ICDS official.
He said that ICDS project Damhal HanjiPora was floating norms and has failed to implement the scheme according to guidelines. Admitting to have dumped the nutrition supply, ICDS Project Officer DHPora when contacted said, "Yes we couldn't distribute the nutrition supply among the centers because of the verification and inspection of supply but now from today we have kick started distributing it," she said.
