Congress tears apart BJP over Tawi lake project, denial of AIIMS to Jammu | | | Kunal Shrivatsa
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 16: Terming the announcement of the Chief Minister (CM) to shelve the multi-crore artificial lake project on River Tawi and denial of AIIMS Hospital to Jammu region as breach of trust by the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) the Congress launched a scathing attack on the saffron party and said today that it was trying to test the patience of Jammuites. Addressing a press conference at Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) headquarters, Shaheedi Chowk here today, the senior Vice President PCC and former Minister Sham Lal Sharma minced no words in criticizing Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led PDP-BJP coalition government for not taking up the issue of AIIMS for Jammu with the Union Government and yesterday's announcement of the CM to abandon prestigious artificial lake project in Jammu. However, Sharma's tone and tenor was particularly harsh and strong against the BJP for its stand on AIIMS for Jammu and shelving of Jammu's artificial lake project. Lashing out at the BJP over the announcement of the CM, Sharma while accusing the BJP of a total surrender said that the saffron party has betrayed the people of Jammu who have put extraordinary faith in it. "People of Jammu are feeling cheated by the BJP as they expressed trust on it, however, the saffron party has sold the interests of the people just for the sake of power….There is no bigger crime and sin then a breach of trust which had been enacted by the BJP with the people of Jammu," Sham Lal Sharma said. "One of the BJP Ministers holding the rank of MoS in PMO, who hails from Jammu, soon after a successful Jammu bandh against the denial of AIIMS to Jammu had stated that the state of the art health institution is for Jammu but the CM's remarks are quite contradictory to what the MoS or Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh is saying all along…BJP has not sacrificed but killed its ideology," Sharma said. "BJP should clear its stand over the issue of AIIMS as well as abandoning of artificial lake project," he added. He further said that Congress has set up two Central Universities one in each region which were much bigger projects than AIIMS and the same approach should have been adopted on the issue of AIIMS for both the regions. On the issue of prestigious multi-crores artificial lake project on river Tawi which is aimed at beautification of the city of temples in order to attract the tourist and pilgrims visiting the state, Sharma said the decision of the state government is most unfortunate and condemnable. "The decision is absurd when around Rs 55 crores have already been spent and the project was to be completed in March 2016," he said adding, that there is no justification for abandoning the project after spending crores of rupees and completing most of the important components of the project. |
