PDP-BJP Coordination Committee to meet next week | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 12: In order to review the functioning of five-month long coalition government in the state, the PDP-BJP Coordination Committee will meet next week. Sources said the meeting would most probably be held before August 18. One of the members of the Coordination Committee said the meeting is now overdue and it will be held as early as possible. "The meeting will be held before August 18. We are finalizing the dates. The meeting is over due and the coalition has to streamline the functioning besides find out modalities to strengthen coordination," the member said. "Many important issues including the ongoing development works in the state as well as overall security situation in the aftermath of the recent militant attacks will be discussed," he said. The meeting assumes significance in view of the logjam over certain issues including sanctioning of AIIMS. Sources said the Coordination Committee will also review the performance of the ministers and discuss the achievements, the works done in past months, immediate priorities, security arrangements and various other issues. The progress on the issues taken up in the previous Coordination Committee meeting will also be reviewed in the meeting, sources added. Another member of the Committee said it would be a routine meeting. He said AIIMS for Jammu "is a settled issue now and land in this regard is being acquired now." Sources said that holding of CC meeting for the coalition partners has also become necessary in view of reports that the partners have no proper understanding on various important issues and there is a row in the functioning of coalition partners as BJP ministers are not consulted on important decisions. Meanwhile, BJP sources said the CC meeting besides taking stock of the developmental activities initiated by the government in all the three regions of the State, will also take stock of the prevailing political and security situation in the state, particularly in Kashmir, and will also have a discussion on the 'Agenda of Alliance.' The ten-member Coordination Committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh was constituted in March for ensuring time bound implementation of 'Agenda of Alliance' and to ensure smooth functioning of the coalition government. The BJP members in the Coordination Committee include Nirmal Singh, Jugal Kishore, Thupstan Chhewang, Lok Sabha member from Ladakh, Shamsher Singh Manhas, Rajya Sabha member and Health and Medical Education Minister Choudhary Lal Singh. The PDP members comprise party president Mehbooba Mufti, Muzaffar Hussain Beig and Tariq Hamid Qarra, the two Lok Sabha members, and Haj and Auqaf Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri and Education Minister Naeem Akhter. |
