Militants sighted across IB, police put on high alert | Intelligence agencies suggest ultras will make infiltration bids to disrupt I-Day | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 12: Following the movement of militants across the International Border (IB), police and other security agencies have been put on high alert as intelligence inputs suggest that they would make repeated infiltration attempts to disrupt Independence Day celebrations in the state. Official sources said border troops had sighted groups of militants close to the IB on the Pak side. "They were mainly sighted in Jafrwal and Ikhlaspur areas and may make attempts to sneak into the Indian territory from Hiranagar border of Kathua, Jammu, or Dinanagar, Punjab," the sources added. Police and other border troops all along the border in J&K and Punjab had been put on high alert, sources said. Intelligence Bureau had also provided inputs to the security agencies in the state as regards the possible intrusion bids by the Pak-based militants. "They will be making desperate attempts to sneak into India to disrupt the Independence Day celebrations," sources informed. They wanted to carry out the attacks on the pattern of Dinanagar and Udhampur, sources said. At Ikhlaspur, a few militants had taken shelter in the house of a civilian for the some days and were in wait for an opportune moment to enter India. "The civilian's house is at a distance of about 5 km from BP No 4 on the IB," the sources said, quoting intelligence inputs. The militants were also seen moving on motorcycles in Pakistan's Fatoichak (2 km from BP No 29), Nainakot (4 km from BP No 17) and Narowal villages. Sources said the militants, who had carried out a recce of the border areas of Hiranagar and Dinanagar, had also identified some spots, including nallahs and other water bodies, for infiltration. To facilitate infiltration by them, the Pak troops were likely to resort to heavy firing on the borders, the sources added. |
