Amid high security alert, vendors issuing SIM cards without verification | | | Majid Nabi Early Times Report Srinagar, August 12: At a time when security agencies are making all-out efforts to bring to an end the unauthorized use of mobile 'sim' cards in Kashmir, A distributor of leading telecom company in susceptible frontier Karnah Tangdhar is playing 'spoilsport' by issuing sim cards to fake people without verifying their credentials. Reliable sources told 'Early Times' that an authorized distributor of 'Airtel' cellular company in Karnah Tangdhar without verifying the credentials, which includes name and address of the user, has issued hundreds of connections on his own. Sources said if the situation remains same it may put the security agencies in a tricky situation and encourage trouble mongers to carry on with their nefarious designs. As far as information about the issuance of sim cards to fake people is concerned sources said, Illiyaas Ahmad Mir a local distributor has not only violated the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of Telecom Services, but has sent alarm bells to security establishments as well. When contacted Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range, Syed Javed Mujtaba Geelani told Early Times " police will investigate the matter tooth and nail and appropriate actions under law be taken against the person if found involved in issuing fake sim cards" "No one even musters courage to tell him as to why he issue sim cards to fake people, being a distributor if a commoner approaches he 'Illiyas' overtly declines his request by claiming that the sim will take around fifteen days to activate," sources said. In another startling revelation, sources said Illiyas had issued an Airtel sim bearing number 9797196696 to a local from Tangdhar, however the same person also owns an Aircel connection with his name mentioning in records as Rinku of Miha Shahpora of central Budgam. "When we enquired about Rinku from Aircel Company his address mentioned in the form was different. This made us believe that Illiyas is issuing sim cards to fake people under a planned manner," sources added. They said illiyas Mir son of Majeed Mir a resident of Sulman Tangdhar, is charging Rupees hundred to five hundred for activated sim. An official wishing anonymity said that there are complaints of fake sim cards pouring in from different areas of Kashmir and the agencies are strictly scrutinizing the connections issued to people ever since mobile service was introduced in the state.
