Urology patients to feel brunt at SS Hospital Jammu due to inadequate space

Jammu, Aug 12: Shortage of beds in the Urology Department of Super Speciality (SS) Hospital Jammu has forced the patients to share beds or shift to other wards. However, the administration claimed that there were enough beds for the patients.
A doctor told Early Times that the Urology department of SS hospital is catering more than 500 patients weekly of whom around 25 get admitted in Urology department but due shortage of beds, patients shifted to Neurology ward.
"However, there are only 26 beds available at the Urology ward along with the authorities have also gave 12 beds in Neurology ward but in view of increasing patients, there is need for more beds, "he stated adding that numbers of times, the matter has been taken with the authorities but till date nothing has been done to provide more beds to patients.
"We do not refuse any patient and allow them to share beds at times. We cannot do anything here. Moreover, almost all the departments need more beds," doctor added.
Sources in the hospital, said even though the hospital authorities claim to have provided enough beds to the patients, the latter are being asked to share beds, putting them at the risk of infection. The threat of infection also lurks in the ward due to overcrowding of patients and attendants", he claimed.
They further said that despite available space in Neurology and Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) wards as lackadaisical approach of the higher ups, resulting patients are crying for beds sometimes. "Moreover, officials saying they are finding it increasingly difficult to cater to the increasing patient rush
The Superintendent of SS Hospital, Dr Romesh Gupta said that few beds had been made available for patients of Urology department. When asked what steps have been taken to provide more beds, he said if doctors of the department are receiving more patients than beds would be available as soon for the patients.
