Early Times Report
jammu, Aug 12: As the security forces have intensified the counter offensive against the militants, separatists in Kashmir are trying their best to utilize the opportunity to trigger unrest and somehow orchestrate street protests and provoke the security forces by instigating the people to pelt stones and attack the security force personnel.
A police official while talking to Early Times said, "Whenever any encounter takes place in any of the areas, separatists activate their henchmen in that particular vicinity with a direction that they should instigate the people to stage violent protests which usually end with forces retaliating and leading to some untoward incident."
The official said that as the gunfight between the militants and the security force personnel was on in the Malangpora area in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Tuesday, the agents of separatists as per the plan instigated people t o come out and stage protests. "In the violent protests a youth was killed providing separatists with the chance to add fuel to the fire," the official added.
He said that on Wednesday most separatists tried to reach Pulwama so that they can deliver the fiery speeches and vitiate the atmosphere further and once again push the people before bullets. "Police didn't allow any of these separatists to reach Pulwama but their agents left no stone unturned to appease their bosses by raising pro-Pakistan and pro-Lashkar slogans. Forces exercised restraint as we didn't want any more casualties," the official added.
Sources said that separatists are under tremendous pressure as their bosses are "unhappy" with the fact that they (separatists) have not been able to stir trouble in Kashmir despite militants making desperate bids to carry out "sensational attacks" but they (militants ) getting a befitting reply has frustrated their handlers sitting across the Line of Control (LoC).
"Separatists are trying to put up a united face as Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik have made joint appearances in the recent past and have issued joint statements as they are under pressure from their bosses in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) to perform or perish," sources added.
They said that agents of separatists in Pulwama and other adjoining areas have received strict instructions to ensure that life should not return to normal in Pulwama and other adjoining areas as the tempers are running high and people should be enticed to stage protests and attack the security force personnel with stones. "We have identified the trouble mongers and they are being tracked. Police would ensure that these elements are dealt with firmly so that they are not able to mislead the people," a police official said. "These agents are trying to exploit innocents by paying them Rs 500/ to come out and stage violent protests. We are keeping a watch over the situation. Additional deployments have been rushed to ensure that no one takes the advantage of the situation and lures youth to take law into their hands."
