KUPWARA, Aug 12: Complete shutdown was observed in Tanghdar area of Kupwara district in North Kashmir to mourn the victims of Tuesday's tragic accident and protest the apathy of government towards the road connectivity.
Local residents of Tangdhar area said that the shutdown was observed to mourn the death of 10 persons killed in accident yesterday near Sadhna Top (Stage-2) in the Tangdhar area
A pale of gloom descended in Tanghdar after the bodies of accident victims were brought to their homes. The deceased persons were buried in their respective graveyards.
Locals expressing anguish over the dilapidated condition of Kupwara-Tanghdar road said that the government has turned a blind eye towards its repairing.
They demanded that the road should be repaired and the traffic beats should be established to check the violations of rules.
It is pertinent to mention here that on August 11, a passenger vehicle Tata Sumo bearing registration no JK013-7383 was on its way to Tangdhar from Kupwara, on reaching Stage-2 at Sadna Top. The vehicle skidded off the road and rolled down almost 1200 ft into a deep gorge at around 7:35 pm.
The accident happened near Sadna top (Stage-2) of Tangdhar area, in which at least ten people died on spot including 1 child, 3 ladies and 6 male.
According to locals all the deceased were returning to their native village after a month, but due to the hilly terrain and dense fog, the driver of the vehicle lost the control and vehicle skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge.
Locals said that during last couple of weeks many people lost their lives in different road mishaps across the north Kashmir. It is learnt that Kralpora Kupwara police claimed to have has registered a case in this regard.
Locals said that shattered glasses and debris present on the spot of accident presented a horrific scene. "Soon after the deadly accident, we rushed towards the spot. Blood was oozing out from the injured. People without any delay shifted the dead bodies to Sub-District Hospital Tangdhar.
The ten deceased were identified as Nazakat, the driver of the vehicle R/O Karnah, Rehmatullaha R/O Hyhama Kupwara, Shamim Ahmad R/O Chowkibal, Nazakath Shah, Zareena Fatima, Nasreen Fatima, Sajid Hussain Shah, Maqsood Ahmad, Reyan 4, R/O Gund Sayidan Tangdhar and one lady of Amroohiye Karnah.
The deadly road accidents are common here in this frontier district of Kupwara as accident are often caused by overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving, but the irony is that district administration and R&B department is in a deep slumber due to which common masses always suffer at large.
