Series of protests over 'beef party', sacrilegious act rock Jammu region | | | Early times Report
JAMMU, Udahmpur , Reasi , Oct 9: The entire Jammu region was rocked by series of protests over the 'beef party' row and alleged sacreligious act committted in Chenani tehsil of Udhampur district. Infuriated by the sacrilegious and law defying 'beef party' organized by MLA Er. Rashid at MLA hostel Srinagar under the nose of the State government and the subsequent death of animals at Chenani, hundreds of Panthers Party activists led by Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP along with Yashpal Kundal State President Young Panthers and other leaders staged a massive protest demonstration at Exhibition Ground here today. Lambasting the BJP partnered State government for turning a blind eye over the verboten 'beef party' organized by the delinquent legislator at MLA Hostel Srinagar, Harsh Dev Singh said that Er. Rashid during the party not only delivered rants flaring communal passions but also dared legislature, judiciary and other institutions relevance by his felonious act committed in the government premises. He sought a registration of criminal cases against the malefactor and his immediate arrest for brazenly defying the law of the land in full public view under various provisions of Ranbir Penal Code. He maintained that many of the aforesaid offences would invite penalty of imprisonment ranging from 5 years to 10 years and entail disqualification upon the defiant lawmaker. Situation today continued to remain tense in Udhampur district which observed a complete bandh, along with Kathua and Reasi districts, a day after three cow carcasses were found here. A complete bandh was observed in the three districts after a strike call was given by various Hindu organisations to protest against killing of cows in Udhampur and a 'beef party' hosted by independent MLA Engineer Rashid at MLA hostel in Srinagar. In Udhmapur, people held protests and blocked the Jammu- Srinagar national highway and other link roads after district administration failed to fulfill its promise of identifying and booking the culprits by this afternoon, an official said. "About 700-800 people gathered on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and blocked the vehicular traffic," a police official said, adding, the civil administration and the police were closely monitoring the situation in the district. Agitating protestors, in various demonstartions, burnt tyres and demanded stern action against those responsible for "killing the cows". People also held demonstrations at several places in the other two districts demanding immediate arrest of culprits. Yesterday, three carcasses of cows were found behind the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Chenani area of the district, with police stating that it appeared that the animals were first poisoned and then their body parts were mutilated. "Three crows and a monkey was also found dead on the site which shows that the cows were apparently poisoned," a police officer said. Shops, educational institutions, public transport and business establishments also remained closed in Chenani, Ramnagar, Majalta area of Udhampur district. Fearing the misuse of social networking sites to incite trouble by spreading rumours, the administration in Jammu yesterday had snapped mobile internet service for several hours. At Udhampur, a strong protest was organized by Congress activists under the leadership of senior Congress leader Sumeet Magotra in Bariyan area. While addressing the protesters, Sumeet Magotra said that the sacrilegious act of anti-social elements will not be tolerated at any cost. Magotra said that present PDP-BJP coalition government is unable to govern the state and also unable to maintain peace and communal harmony. Later on, Congress activists reached Salathia Chowk in shape of a protest rally and they burn the effigy of Chief Minster Mufti Muhammad Syed. Congress activists were also raising slogans against Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Singh. Meanwhile, the members of NGO 'Jiyo aur Jeene Do' condemned the yesterday's unfortunate incident of Chenani and expressed their concern over this shameful incident. The members of NGO and the President of NGO Tariq Shah gathered at Bus Stand and raised the slogans of 'Save the Cow'. While speaking on the occasion the president of NGO Tariq Shah said," The incident that happened yesterday at Chenani is quite shameful. All those who are behind such acts shall never be spared." A complete bandh was observed at Kathua wherein all shops, traffic and educational institutions were remain closed throughout the day. Beyopar Mandal supported the bandh call and condemned such type of slaughtering incidents. The Sunderbani town also rocked with a huge protest against Member of Legislative Assembly Engg. Rashid who organized a 'beef party' at MLA Hostel in Srinagar. Several political, social and religious organisations including BJP, Yuva Morcha, Gou Raksha Dal, RSS, Shiv Sena, BJSN and many others held demonstrations in protest at Sunderbani against MlLA Rashid for hurting the sentiments of Hindu community. They also burnt the effigy of Rashid. At Kathua, Congress today staged huge protest demonstration wherein the party activists blocked National Highway 1A and demanded imposition of Governor's rule in the state. The protest was led by senior Congress leader Naresh Sharma. While addressing the protesters, Sharma alleged that state government especially BJP is not taking strict action against prepatrators of animal slaughters and hosting of 'beef party'. He said BJP can but Congress can't tolerate such incidents as BJP backed such slaughtering incidents to influence public in Bihar. State VHP President Leela Karan Sharma has condemned in severest terms the sacrilegious act of killing three bovines reportedly due to poison in Chenani and thereafter spotting some flesh pieces of the animal in a water tank at Gadi, Udhampur. "Such incident if not nipped in the bud may create uncontrollable conditions in the state. Already atmosphere was charged because of an action conducted by Engineer Rashid at Srinagar", he said, adding that that present one at Chenani could inflame further the peaceful atmosphere in the state. GGM Science College's student today held a strong protest demonstration under the banner of JJSF against the 'beef party' organised by MLA Er Rashid at MLA Hostel, Srinagar. According to press release, hundreds of students on Friday morning boycotted their classes and protested near the Shaheedi Sthal. The protest was led by Vikas Pandita, President along with Clinton, Vice president and Sahil Jamwal, District President. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, said that BJP has miserably failed to achieve their so called basic slogan of "Ek Nissan, Ek Vidhan and Ek Pardhan" but succeeded in open sale of "beef" in the state. In the year 1932, Maharaja Hari singh banned the cow slaughter in the State under section 298 A,B,C and D Ranbir Penel Code on the basis of which High Court of J&K banned the Beef sale in the state in letter and spirit through PIL but the government of BJP files SLP in the Supreme Court of India and managed stay on the order of High Court of J&K. After that the miscreants started to exploit the situation in the whole state. The recent incident of 'beef party' in MLA hostel which is highly condemnable by all sections of society. Now the backlash of the incident is that there is social unrest in the whole state and causes a serious threat to the communal harmony in the state which was maintained by the previous government. |
