More scenes in offing as aspirants intensify image building exercise ahead of BJP president election | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 9: More scenes of high voltage drama and pro-active role by some BJP MLAs are likely to be witnessed in the forthcoming days of State politics as the race for the position of new party president of Jammu and Kashmir intensifies. Only a month is left for the election of new State president of BJP in place of the incumbent Jugal Kishore Sharma, to whom the party high command is learnt to have refused to accord second tenure at any cost. The aspirants for the top post include some sitting MLAs, who are in the race. As the final selection of new BJP president is understood to be approved by the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh, sources said that these aspirants have intensified their efforts for image building before the RSS high command and its functionaries. Despite to maintain a criminal silence over open slaughtering of cows in Kashmir Valley, ouster of two Additional Advocate Generals from Jammu on beef issue, the high voltage drama in the Assembly yesterday by the BJP MLAs was part of their image building exercise. Even as Wednesday episode helped BJP to some extent in regaining public support in its bastion Jammu, the party MLAs were actually eyeing for personal gain in respect of image building, sources explained. Since Ravinder Raina was talk of the town for his act of allegedly slapping Engineer Rashid, another BJP MLA Sat Pal Sharma today tried to project himself as custodian of Jammu interests by raising the issue of compensation to family of Chamel Singh, who had died in Pakistan's Kot Lakhpat jail, last year. Even as BJP came to power in March this year, the party never raised the issue of Chamel Singh during the last more than six months. Pertinent to mention that both Ravinder Raina and Sat Sharma are in race for the party president and according to the sources in BJP circles, some more high voltage dramas by other aspirants are also in offing in the forthcoming days. |
