Signboards on Banganga-Vaishno Devi track display cellphone Nos of retd police officers

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 9: The signboards on the holy Banganga-Vaishnodevi Bhavan track in Trikuta Hills ironically display the mobile phone Nos of either retired police officers or the officers who now stand transferred to other districts.
The signboards were erected along the track for the convenience of pilgrims, who visit the holy cave shrine from different parts of the country and abroad, so that they could directly contact senior police officers in case of any exigency. Irony is that the cellphone numbers displayed on them either belong to the officers who have retired from services or who stand transferred from Katra and Reasi areas.
For instance, the signboards carry the mobile phone No of SSP Raghubir Singh who retired from Police Department in 2013. Not only this, the mobile phone numbers of SPs, DSPs and Inspectors, who stand transferred from the area, also continue to find a place on these signboards.
This is ridiculous because the very purpose of putting signboards along the track gets defeated if the information is stale. "Whenever the pilgrims contact police officers on these Nos, they feel cheated because none of them is at present posted in Reasi and Katra areas. Most of the times, they don't even get from the retired and transferred officers the mobile phone numbers of the officers who are at present serving in the area. This causes them inconvenience and if the situation happens to be serious, they also face mental harassment," police sources said.
While the Reasi police has been approached by the pilgrims and locals a number of times, they are yet to remove the mobile phone Nos of the retired and transferred police officers from the signboards and replace them with the cellphone Nos of the serving ones.
Sources said there was an emergent need of updating the status of signboards for the convenience of pilgrims
