Divide state to end inter-regional, inter-religious tensions | Jammu's reaction | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 9: "We cannot co-exist with fanatic Kashmiri leadership. We have no trust in it. It is not just Valley-centric, but it is also anti-Jammu. We cannot remain part of the state that is biased against us and in favour of the Valley. We have no say in the assembly despite the fact that there are 37 MLAs from the region in the assembly. They are not our representatives. They are under the influence of Kashmiri leadership. They have completely abandoned us to further their own vested interests. They represent Kashmir in the assembly. It is not our assembly; it is the assembly of Kashmir where only Kashmir-specific issues are discussed; where anti-India resolutions are adopted; where the Kashmiri lawmakers denounce the Central laws and Central institutions; where attempts are being made by communal forces to create tension; where anti-Dogra decisions are announced; where attempts are made to arouse communal feelings against India and where anti-refugee stands are taken. Kashmir loots and plunders us and our region. We pay more revenue, but it is Kashmir which progresses at our cost. We have population equal to that of Kashmir, if not more, but it is Kashmir which has more than 50 per cent representation in the assembly. Non-Muslims cannot become Chief Minister here. It is Kashmir which runs and controls the civil secretariat, the seat of power. It is Kashmir which gets the lion's share in every sphere. Divide the state to end inter-regional and inter-religious tensions. Division of the state is the only way out. Division of the state will not only end inter-regional and inter-religious tensions and enable us to lead a dignified, secure and empowered life, but it will also help New Delhi tackle Kashmir and Kashmiri leadership in an effective manner. To maintain three disparate regions as one political unit would be only to further aggravate the situation in the already rather disturbed state". Who said so? Many in Jammu on Thursday said so following what happened and transpired in the Assembly. "Yesterday's developments have shattered us and convinced us that it would be dangerous for all of us in Jammu to have any kind of ties with Kashmir and Kashmiri leadership," they further said, adding that the "Kashmiri leadership's ideology is perverted, sectarian or exclusivist, intolerant and regressive". "By swinging solidly behind MLA Rashid, who willfully hurt the religious sentiments of Jammu people by hosting beef party at Srinagar by flouting the established laws, majority of the Kashmiri lawmakers made it clear that they were ideologically with the independent MLA," many in Jammu said while condemning the role and attitude of certain lawmakers in and outside the state legislature. They said many other things, some of which cannot be reported. Such was the Jammu's reaction to what happened in Kashmir on Wednesday and Thursday. One may or may not agree, but it is a fact that an impression has gained ground in Jammu region that certain Kashmiri leaders were the root cause of all the ills facing the people of the region and that division of the state. |
