Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Oct 9: Claiming responsibility of killing Sub Inspector Mohammad Altaf Dar, militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) Friday said that the attack on Dar was planned and only two militants participated in the attack. In an emailed statement to media agency, Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi, spokesperson LeT quoting Lashkar-Chief Mahmood Shah said that the militants who participated in the attack reached safely at their destination.
"The death of Altaf Dar was major setback to Indian police and such attacks on Indian aides will continue in future as well, statement reads. However the conglomerate of militant outfits, United Jihad Council (UJC) in their statement to press said that it had decided to confer bravery award on the militants responsible for the killing of Altaf Dar. It is pertinent to mention here that Sub Inspector (SI) Mohammad Altaf Dar, who was heading a Special Investigation Team (SIT), was killed on October 7, in a brief shootout in Gund Dachin area of Bandipora district in north Kashmir. DIG NKR range Garib Dass told Early Times that according to their investigations, LeT was involved in the killing of police Sub Inspector Altaf Dar, adding that this was the first incident of such type of attack on police in Bandipora district. Information reveals that there are a huge number of foreign militants in North Kashmir as compared to the locals, and there is no LeT group in Bandipora district, more we will carry out further investigations, and will eliminate these militants in future, DIG added. Meanwhile J&K police Friday held various prayer meetings across its establishment for slain tech savvy cop, Altaf Ahmad Dar.
