SRINAGAR, Nov 7: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that he has joined hands with Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in order to ensure that there is complete development of Jammu & Kashmir with full support from the Government of India.
Addressing a public rally here at the Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket stadium, Mufti said that he cannot afford to remain aloof from BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi since BJP is at power at the Centre. He said that Modi is the leader of 125 crore Indians and that progress in state is impossible with support of people at helm in New Delhi.
"When I joined hands with BJP for forming the government in the state there were people including my own people who grew suspicious over the same. But let me make it clear that we have to take people of the country along if we want to have peace and progress in the state. The same is impossible if we remain away from BJP since it is in power at the centre," said the Chief Minister.
Mufti said that the people of Jammu & Kashmir displayed exemplary tolerance in the recent past when some unfortunate incidents took place in different parts of the country. He said there is no place of hatred in the state, adding that people in the regions of state are tolerant. He added that there would be no discrimination and government stands committed towards development of all regions in the state.
"India should play its role of a big brother and extend hand of friendship to Pakistan. This would give new direction to our commitment towards peace and tranquility on the global scene. There are people who know that Pakistan is fighting hard for survival. At the same time these people want India to come up and show the path of peace and progress to its neighbours including Pakistan," said the chief minister. Referring to the re-settlement of Kashmiri Pandits in the valley, Mufti said that return of Pandits would be possible only when they live with Muslims. He said that settlement of Kashmiri Pandits on the pattern of separate clusters as is prevalent in Palestine would not lead to fruitful results. He said that Kashmiri Pandits were forced to leave valley and should be encouraged for a respectable return to the Kashmir valley.
The chief minister referred to the dilapidated road infrastructure in the state and said that mere rainfall leads to closure of Srinagar-Jammu national highway. He said that annual Amarnath Yatra also gets halted due to the inclement weather adding that there is dire need to improve road network across the state. Mufti said that his government would fill 30,000-40,000 vacancies on fast track basis in the state. He referred to unemployment as one of the big challenges and said that government would take every step to tide over unemployment crisis. He said that government also stands committed to providing relief to the flood hit people adding that they are our own people.
