Baig, Karra skip rally | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 7: Senior PDP leaders and MPs left the Chief Minister and the party president red faced by staying away from the Prime Minister's rally. Muzaffar Hussain Baig and Tariq Hamid Karra, both of whom happen to be Members of Parliament skipped the Prime Minister's rally today much to the annoyance of their party leadership. As per protocol, it was mandatory for Karra, the Member Parliament of the host constituency, Srinagar, to have been present at the rally which was to be addressed by the Prime Minister. "It has been a tradition that whenever Prime Minister visits a State, the MP of the concerned constituency if he happens to be from ruling coalition or its ally has to be present. Though Karra falls in both the categories of being in power in the State and ally in the Centre, he didn't attend the rally," said a senior politician, adding that Karra has created a history of sorts by breaking the tradition. Sources said though some efforts were made to make Karra attend the PM's rally he remained reluctant on his stand. For the past few months Karra has been vehemently denouncing PDP's accord with BJP pleading that it "helped RSS make inroads into Kashmir." |
