`Tainted' Dental College Principal appoints senior residents illegally | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 7: The `tainted' Principal of Govt Dental College (GDC) & Hospital Srinagar has once again been caught doing acts of favoritism and nepotism by appointing blue eyed Registrars / Senior residents in the hospital against the norms set by Dental Council of India (DCI) an apex body looking after dental education in country. As per confirmed reports a blue-eyed dental surgeon who completed her Masters degree in Dental Sciences (MDS) recently in the Orthodontia branch has been appointed as Registrar / Senior resident in the same faculty (Orthodontia) which as per DCI norms is only an approved course and not recognized (see DCI website http://www.dciindia.org.in/SearchCollegeDetails.aspx?Id=57) The said dental surgeon has not even a valid registration for her masters degree in dentistry i.e. Masters in Dental Sciences (MDS). As per norms of Dental Council of India only such dental surgeon can become a Senior Resident / Registrar who have a valid MDS registration with State Dental Council (SDC) which the said dental surgeon isn't having. The reason for not having MDS registration from SDC is mainly due to non recognition of MDS course at Govt Dental College Srinagar. Sources said that tainted Principal of Govt Dental College & Hospital Srinagar Dr Reyaz Farooq against whom has an FIR registered in State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) for misappropriation of funds and his right-hand man and the head of Orthodontia faculty Dr Mushtaq Ahmad are doing all this as they have some vested interest in this whole issue and that is the reason they are giving preference to blue eyed doctors and throwing the norms into air. By such acts Dr Reyaz Farooq and the HoD Orthodontia are playing with the career of meritorious and bright dental surgeons whose Masters Degree is very much valid and recognized by Dental Council of India (DCI). "The Principal could have given opportunity to other MDs candidates from other faculties and post of senior resident / registrar could have been created but this wasn't done. All this clearly indicates that Principal GDC Srinagar is allotting the senior residency / registrarship to his favourites" said a senior doctor (name withheld) working at Govt Dental College (GDC) and hospital Srinagar Pertinently early this year the same Principal had failed to conduct the exams of Masters of Dental Sciences (MDS) students for several months . It was Early Times report which forced the principal to conduct these exams . The students had been alleging that their career was at stake and Early Times had carried a detailed story in this regard on March 5, 2015. The Government Dental College & Hospital Srinagar in past has remained in news as the Principal of the college was indicted by the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) for causing loss amounting to almost Rs 50 lakh to the State exchequer as he had purchased several dental equipments on much exorbitant rates from some suppliers after getting illegal gratification. Government is yet to initiate action against the tainted principal in-spite of the fact that an FIR stands registered against the Principal Dr Reyaz Farooq. Vigilance according to reliable sources has forwarded Dr Reyaz's name to General Administration Department (GAD) to seek prosecution sanction under J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and sources at GAD said that sanction may be given very soon as the matter has been discussed at a very high level recently. |
