Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 7: BJP's student wing, ABVP, replaced its state president on Saturday in the wake of suspension of three of its activists from Jammu University. Sources told Early Times that Ishveer Sharma was appointed as new president of the ABVP. He replaced Dr Varinder Kundal. "The decision was taken in the meeting held here on Saturday under leadership of National Joint Secretary, ABVP, Srinivas. The meeting was attended by various ABVP leaders, and after a long debate Dr Kundal was removed from the post," said sources. Dr Kundal's removal comes days after a controversy erupted in the University of Jammu, when three activists of the ABVP were expelled from the campus on the basis of their prima facie involvement in creating trouble on the campus on October 13-14. "Leaving suspended ABVP activists in the lurch, the person behind the episode had tried his best to get blessings of the Vice-Chancellor," said sources. They however said internal rift in the Parishad was also a reason for removal of Dr Kundal, as few leaders were not happy with him. Meanwhile, a committee constituted to probe the alleged misconduct of the three ABVP activists is yet to submit its report. The five-member committee constituted on October 18 is headed by Prof Kulwant Singh, Head Law Department, and includes Prof Shalinder Singh, Head Department of History; Prof Parmeshwari, Head Department of Dogri; Prof Mubrakh Singh, Dean Education; and Dr Raj Kumar, Deputy Registrar. The panel has interviewed all the concerned. "Under pressure from ABVP and other saffron groups, the Vice-Chancellor is also trying to give clean-chit to expelled ABVP activists," alleged sources. |
