NFSA to be implemented in JK soon: Zulfkar

SRINAGAR, Nov 14: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public distribution and Tribal Affairs, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali today said the National Food Safety Act (NFSA) will be soon implemented in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Minister said this while inaugurating new office complex of CAPD Department at Baramulla. He said under the Act, 5 Kgs of food-grains would be given per soul at subsidized rates.
Zulfkar said the shifting of officials in CAPD department is inevitable to ensure effective and transparent public services.
Earlier the Minister inaugurated newly constructed CAPD office complex at Baramulla constructed at a cost of Rs 80 lakh.
He appreciated the role of CAPD department and said the newly constructed complex will aid in effective service delivery.
Zulfkar also sanctioned Rs 1 crore for construction of Gujjar hostel at Baramulla. He said land has already been identified for the purpose and work will start soon.
During the meeting with officers, the Minister took a comprehensive review of the working of the Gujjar Hostel at Rangwar Baramulla. It was given out that the hostel has 20 rooms, wherein Gujjar students of various areas are being provided accommodation.
Stressing on the officers to work with efficiency and transparency, Zulfkar said; "Ration distribution should be done as per the fixed quota with effective, timely and transparent distribution, so that the general public do not face any inconvenience."
The meeting was attended by Director CAPD, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Joint Director Planning and officers of CAPD department.
During the meeting, the Minister took a comprehensive account of the stock position of ration in the district.
It was given out in the meeting that 57000 quintals of rice and 1450 quintals of wheat are available at FCI godown Kralhar while as 150000 quintals of rice and 39000 quintals of wheat are stocked at PEG Sangrama.
Regarding the Kerosene Oil distribution in the district, it was mentioned that 660 Kls of Kerosene have been lifted and distributed among the ration card holders for the month of October 2015.
The concerned officers also briefed the Minister about the status of LPG distribution.
Moreover, it was informed that the total number of sale outlets in district Baramulla stands at 498, while as 12 Godowns are functional in the district and 465 K-Oil depots are also operational. Six Gas agencies are also active in LPG distribution.
The concerned officers also informed the Minister that the requisite ration for the months of winter for far flung habitations has already been dumped.
