APSCC threatens to intensify agitation in support of its demands | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 14: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) today threatened to intensify their agitation in support of its demands and said that members of Sikh community would no longer be 'misled' by 'false' promises by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) government in Jammu & Kashmir. These observations were made by some of the Sikh leaders during a protest at Baramulla today. Today's programme was second in the series of programmes proposed to be carried out by APSCC in support of demands of Sikh community. During the protest some of the members of Sikh community carried out a dharna in support of their demands. Some of the protesters were carrying banners and placards in their hands. Addressing the protesters APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said that Sikhs in Jammu & Kashmir would no more be 'deceived' by 'hollow' promises of PDP-BJP government in the state. He said despite projecting their demands many times the people at helm have always a blind eye to the genuine demands of Sikhs in state. "The Sikhs of Jammu & Kashmir will not tolerate injustice anymore in terms of jobs, granting minority status to Sikhs and filling up vacant posts of Punjabi language. If the state and central government don't take early steps to solve the pending matters of Sikhs then the protests will be intensified at all levels across the state," said Raina. The APSCC Chairman said that despite giving an ultimatum of 20 days the state government did not move an inch towards the fulfillment of demands of Sikh community. He said that state government has failed to extend the National Minority Act to the Sikhs of Jammu & Kashmir. "It is shocking and disappointing that chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed did not utter a single word in this matter and same is the case with his ministerial colleagues. PDP in its election manifesto had written that minority status would be given to the Sikhs of state. The coalition government in the state is more than eight months old but still then there is no progress with respect to fulfillment of demands of Sikhs in the state," said Raina. The APSCC Chairman said that some of PDP candidates won the elections due to the votes cast by the Sikhs in their respective constituencies. He alleged that these legislators along with the others in the government are turning a deaf ear to the genuine problems of Sikhs in the state. He said the present government would get dislodged if they continue to play 'politics' with Sikhs of Jammu & Kashmir. District President GPC Baramulla Dr. Tara Singh said that PDP-BJP government is taking refuge under Article 370 and as such it is not extending minority status to Sikhs of Jammu & Kashmir. President Shrimoni Khalsa Dal Kashmir Engineer Nirmal Singh opined that there is no representation of Sikhs in legislature, council and local bodies. The APSCC formally launched its agitation from the summer capital of the state on November 10. |
