Ministers, MLAs inaugurate Gali-Kochas, lay foundation stone for land-filling works

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 14: Even as the country elsewhere is talking of mega developments like construction of expressways and skyscrapers, the Bharatiya Janta Party ministers and MLAs from Jammu are busy giving hype to meagre works like laying foundation stones for land-filling or inauguration of lanes, lanes and by-lanes, which are traditionally termed as Gali-Kochas.
Having failed to show any significant development to the people of Jammu, who voted them to power, the BJP is making its lawmakers inaugurate ordinary works, which till now were never heard of being inaugurated even by a lower rung government servant than to talk of ministers. Interestingly, the Information Department, is giving full coverage to such developments.
Take the case of MLA Ramban, Neelam Kumar Langeh who, as per official handout, recently inaugurated "newly constructed lane here at Upper Govind Pura Maitra." Even the expenditure on the development hasn't been that big. The handout from the Information department said "The lane has been constructed by Rural Development Department, Ramban, at a cost of Rs 1.70 Lakh provided by MLA under Constituency Development Fund (CDF). Block Development Officer, Ramban, Sunil Sharma, officials and prominent citizens attended the function."
On the same day, Minister for Social Welfare, Forest, Ecology and Environment, Bali Bhagat inaugurated blacktopping cum re-surfacing works of Mishri Wala to Jhiri road in Jammu region.
"After inaugurating the macadamization work from Mishri Wala, Bali congratulated the people of the area and said that the Government has been according top priority to developing new infrastructure and focused attention is being paid on upgradation of existing roads in the state," the Information Department handout said.
"The Minister said that during the last six months, unprecedented development has been witnessed in the three regions of the state," the official handout added.
Interestingly the minister also laid foundation stone for land filling and construction of a compound wall and leaved no stone unturned to praise the state government for the menial jobs. "The Minister also laid foundation stone of land leveling and boundary wall works at GHS, Seri Panditan. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the developmental activities initiated by the government have changed the socio-economic profile of the people of the state especially those living in hilly and far flung areas," the handout said.
In August, Bali Bhagat had inaugurated a small colony transformer in Jammu. The news about transformer inauguration was also circulated by the Information Department on August 31 along with photo of the Minister alongside the transformer he dedicated to the people. That was one of the smallest transformers any area is given in the State. Officials said mostly 400 KVA transformers are installed in residential colonies in a routine manner without any pomp and show even by the linemen. But the minister highlighted the installation of a small 100 KVA transformer.
That time "Reiterating that equitable development of all the regions is being given focused attention", the Minister said "area specific development projects have been devised to meet the needs of the people."
While the Kashmiri leaders are even not satisfied with Rs 80,000 crore package as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP leaders from Jammu are busy to highlight even expenditure of peanuts.
