Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 14: Power Development Department (PDD) has punctured the tall claims of the Power Minister Dr Nirmal Singh as unscheduled and frequent power cuts in the winter capital have become a routine. It's for the first time in the past 10-years that metered areas in Jammu are facing 10-hour power cut. Singh had assured uninterrupted supply of electricity to Jammuities but pesky power cuts in winter seem to be the gift of BJP government to the people of Jammu, who voted them to power.
Sanjay Sharma, a resident of Bohri, a metered area said the area has been witnessing 10 hour curtailment for the past one week. Earlier, he said, the area would be subjected to two hour curtailment, one in the morning and one in the evening.
Another resident, Sushil Sharma said the issue was taken up with the authorities repeatedly without results. "The officials seem ignorant of the area. Some of them said the problem may be due to incomplete metering," he said.
He was told by one of the officials that the meter installing company IRCON (Indian Railway construction Company limited) has been taking shutdown to install pending meters in the respecting areas.
Assistant Executive Engineer, JP Singh of Canal Sub Division said that the issue of power curtailment was a prerogative of Sub Transmission Division wing, so, you must contact him.
Executive Engineer, Ravinder Kumar Sharma of STD wing said there is no gap between demand and supply but the curtailment is being done due to instructions of higher officials. It is routine scheduled curtailment which is being witnessed in entire Jammu region", he said.
