Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, nov 14: The historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, was today put through for traffic after remaining closed yesterday due to fresh snowfall. Meanwhile, traffic on 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was also plying normally despite rain at few places. A traffic police official told that the Mughal road was through for traffic after snow at Pir-Ki-Gali and other areas of the road was cleared after putting into service snow clearance machines and men from both side. First the stranded vehicles will be allowed to move towards their respective destinations and then fresh vehicles will be allowed from Rajour, Poonch and Shopian he added. The road was closed yesterday following one to two feet of snowfall. Later, local authorities from both sides of the Gali pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to clear about one to two feet of snow at Pir-Ki-Gali and other areas of the road, which is seen as alternative to Srinagar-Jammu highway. This is the second time in less than two weeks that the road was closed due to snowfall. Last week, the road was closed due to heavy snowfall and slippery road conditions. However, vehicles were being allowed to ply from 0900 hrs to 1700 hrs only as the road was very slippery in the morning and evening hours due to sub-zero temperature.
Meanwhile, the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was through for traffic.
