Gurdas Kumar Early Times Report Samba, Feb 16: Despite Municipal Council talking tough on illegal constructions in Samba, the same is still going on unabated in the district reasons better known to officials at helms of affairs. The residents alleged that despite several complaints, the illegal constructions have been going on by violating building permission norms and Samba municipal council is in deep slumber. In reply to the RTI query, the Municipal Council Samba has stated that five buildings are under construction which have got due approval from concerned municipal authorities. "But the fact here is that there are atleast 15 to 20 buildings under construction near Kotli Mandi along the national highway in Samba that too reportedly without pre-requisite permission and the ongoing construction of these buildings apparently have left a question mark on the working of the municipal council," said Nischant Singh, a local resident. Another local resident Satpal Singh said, "Due to the lackadaisical attitude of the municipal officials in recent past years around two dozen illegal buildings have come up in the Samba which includes Kotli Market, Link Road, Border Road and Main Chowk." "The authorities concerned should intervene and take action against illegal constructions as it was going on unabated in the city and municipal council was not taking any action against the defaulters," he added. Meanwhile Pritam Chand, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee (MC), Samba said, "I will ask for a report on the construction works going on in the area." "The illegal construction would not be tolerated and action would be taken against the violators," he said. |
