Harish Chander Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 16: An attempt made by a sitting Congress MLA and ex-minister to encroach upon a piece of government land at Chhani Himmat here has been foiled by police and senior officers of the district administration. The MLA owns a plot in Gujjar Colony of Chhani Himmat. He today allegedly made an attempt to grab a piece of government land, which adjoins his plot and falls between plot No 8 and 9. Some locals objected to it, saying the land was earmarked for a park, police sources said. After the matter came to their notice, police and senior officers of the district administration reached there and stopped the work on the government land. On inquiry, it was found that the land was actually the government property. A probe had been ordered into the incident, sources informed. The MLA, who belongs to some other district, belongs to an influential political family. He tried to grab the government land which was earmarked for a park in 1978, sources said. His attempt was, however, foiled due to the alertness of locals, the sources added. He also owns a house at Chhani Himmat. |
