Anti-pollution Movement protests, demands action against 'toxic' industries | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Feb16: Anti -pollution Movement, an NGO, today staged a massive protest demonstration outside the office of DDC Kathua and sought action against several industries established in Govindsar of Kathua especially near residential areas further resulting pollution of surroundings thus resulting hazards of skin and lungs diseases among minors and old. The protesters later submitted a memorandum to Governor through DDC Kathua and demanded early redressal of their demands. Led by S Mohinder Singh General Secretary of the organization, the protestors alleged that 'red' industries are polluting the air and water of surroundings in the area. While addressing the protesters, Singh alleged on lead (Red category) Cement industries which are making lives of residents prone to various health hazards. He said dozens of locals are suffering with physical abnormalities due to pollution spreading by these industries. "These industries are established in residential areas and unchecked pollution makes the life difficult and government should shift these industries to save the minors," he said. Singh alleged on Pollution Control Board to back the pollution in the area as no routine checkup has been done to mitigate the pollution.
