| I&FC Deptt fails in Poonch as 'horrid 2014' haunts Sathra locals | | | Rajesh Tandon

Poonch, Mar 14: As the incessant rains are lashing the region for the last few days, the residents of Sathra block of Poonch district of Jammu region are haunted with the horrifying memories of September Floods of 2014 courtesy failure of I&FC department.
Locals alleged that Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department has totally failed in Poonch district to construct embankment to protect the low lying areas.
According to the official sources, the conditions of the all over district Poonch is same as these were in September 2014 when inclement weather left whole state ravaged with flood and landslides.
Many people of Sathra block of Poonch alleged that the department has utterly failed to protect Mandi from Poonch river at the place of Sathra.
Molvi Abdul Latief, Riaz Khan and others expressing their resentment over department's callous approach said after September flood the concern department has not learnt any lesson and yet has not showed their interest towards the areas prone to danger during floods and rains.
They said the conditions of the area is same as nineteen months before, river has straddled in different areas and people have not any way to connect with their block offices and market.
Insaaf Movement Poonch has demanded a probe to action should be taken against incompetent officers of the department.
Javid Reshi the chairman of the movement said that crores of rupees have been invested for protection of the said river in documents. |
