After comparing ISIS with RSS, Azad retracts | Jammu BJP leaders keep Cong leader happy, remain silent | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 14: The leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has stirred up the hornet's nest by drawing a parallel between the RSS and terrorist outfit ISIS. Azad's statement has drawn flak and has evoked sharp reaction from various quarters. BJP has asked him to apologize for comparing the "nationalist RSS" with ISIS. As the battery of Jammu based BJP spokesmen maintained silence over senior Congress leader taking a dig at RSS, surprisingly, BJP's Kashmir spokesman Khalid Jehangir openly came out in defence of its ideological ally. "RSS is a nationalist organization. Azad by making such a statement has proved that Congress has lost the plot after losing power and its leaders have seen the writing on the wall. They have realized that their party is all set to become the history. Growing popularity of BJP and RSS in the country has unnerved the Congress leaders," Jehangir said in a statement. The BJP spokesman said that history stands testimony to the fact that Congress leaders have always tried to suppress the RSS but they always got a befitting reply. On Monday Ghulam Nabi Azad informed Rajya Sabha that he had not compared RSS with ISIS. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, the Congress leader read out from his speech that he delivered at a Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind function: "Hum aise ISIS wali jaisi sangathane, hum unka bhi utna hi virodh karte hai jitna RSS ka karte hain (we also oppose these organisations like the ISIS as much as we oppose RSS)." Azad's clarification was sought by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. "There is no comparison... If I would have said they are one, that is comparison," said Azad, challenging ruling party to move a privilege motion against him. "You can move privilege (motion)," he said. Azad by reading out the speech he had delivered at the Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind function has tried to put the lid over the controversy and seems keen on closing the matter. "What Azad said and the reactions are matter of record, but the point which one needs to note is that none of the BJP leaders from the Jammu region reacted to his speech as none of them wanted to annoy the former Chief Minister of JK Ghulam Nabi Azad," said an analyst. He said, "Jammu based BJP leaders seem to have forgotten that they created history in Jammu region by winning 25 out of 37 seats in 2014 assembly polls due to the RSS support. All of them ignored this fact to appease the senior Congress leader." A politician said, "When Azad was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir most BJP leaders used to seek favours from him. How could they have annoyed him?" He said, "BJP leaders these days are mourning the loss of power and seem to be unaware about the developments that are taking place around them. It's really unfortunate that BJP leaders have forgotten their mentors and they have no guts to oppose the voices which sling mud on their ideological partner."
