Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 14: Even as troops from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) have reportedly made their presence felt in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), making Indian security grid worried, the separatists seem to be excited by the "Chinese whispers."
Under the garb of protecting $ 46-billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the PLA troops have made their presence felt in PoK, and have been have been spotted at the forward posts opposite north Kashmir's Nowgam sector.
While, no one from Indian Army has spoken a word on the issue, sources said, they have been constantly updating the higher ups in the Government and intelligence agencies about the development.
But this sensitive situation has left the Hurriyat Conference G led by Syed Ali Geelani excited as the amalgamate issued a formal statement to defend the presence of Chinese troops at the LOC and to thank them.
The Hurriyat (G) on Monday said that they have "no reason to oppose" the presence of Chinese Army as it was part of a business deal between Pakistan and China.
"The presence of Chinese army in Azad Kashmir is under a mutual agreement between Pakistan and China and it is a part of the Pak-China economic corridor process and the pro-freedom people have no reason to oppose this move," the Hurriyat said in a handout.
The pro-Pakistan party said "China is a strong supporter of the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people so it is in no way fair to compare the Chinese army with such a cruel and oppressive occupational forces of India who are carrying out genocides of the Kashmiri people in a planned manner since last 68 years."
The separatist party is strongly pleading the case of Chinese. "India has long-pending border disputes with China… and many border States of India including Arunachal Pradesh are still a cause of tension between the two countries," the Hurriyat said.
The spokesman said the "Kashmiri nation as a whole was extremely thankful" to China for its unconditional support to "our freedom struggle and this country does not recognize the illegal and forced occupation of India in Kashmir."
While China has started to peep into Indian territory from PoK side, Pakistan has raised three additional brigades of its Army complete with artillery and helicopter support to protect China-funded CPEC.
"The Pak Army Brigades are under a Special Security Division (SSD) commanded by a Major General-level officer and translate into some 15,000 men, of which 5,000 belong to the special services group," sources revealed. "To hide the identity of PLA troops, they will operate under a local security wing in PoK."
The CPEC was launched in 2015 by Chinese President Xi Jinping in Islamabad with agreements on pipelines, power plants and to connect the two countries through road and rail infrastructure.
New Delhi has already objected to the multi-billion dollar project as it runs through a part of Jammu and Kashmir that is occupied by Pakistan. New Delhi also protested against the presence of Chinese troops in Gilgit and Baltistan, an area in PoK, saying that it was unacceptable to India.
