Under trail murder accused assaults 'witness' in court

Jammu, Mar 14: Panic gripped the court premises Kathua, after a witness in a murder case was reportedly assaulted by the under trail in a murder case in District Court Kathua where the witness has come to record his statement.
According to police sources, the incident took place today in the morning when the witness namely Bhupinder Singh s/o Wadhawa Singh of Barnoti, Kathua, had come to court to record his statement before the Court of Additional Magistrate and was waiting outside the chamber of the judge.
"The under trail in a murder case identified as Kuldip Singh while passing through the corridor to attend hearing of case started abusing the witness - Bhupinder Singh and later assaulted him. However timely intervention of the police on duty prevented any serious injury to Bhupinder Singh, sources said.
"The cops immediately shifted the under trail Kuldip Singh back to the District Jail, Kathua, they added.
Meanwhile the victim has moved a petition before the Court and it taking cognizance in this regard has directed the police authorities for necessary action in this regard.
Police sources said that the witness also has alleged that today morning he received a call from an unknown mobile number and the caller threatened him not to appear before the court for the testimony and if he refuses then they will kidnap his son.
Police have registered another case under relevant sections of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) against the assailant, after conducting the medical examination of the victim.
As per brief facts of case, in 2014, two groups of Truck Owners Union entered into a heated brawl at the Union Office wherein the then president of the Union Kuldip Singh opened fire due to which a guard of Excise department got killed. Accordingly police arrested the accused and registered a case under sections 302, 307, 147, 148, of RPC and 3/25 of Arms Act, but three other accused involved in the incident still are absconding.
