Rajouri, Mar 27: An army jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself dead with his service rifle near the Line of Control (LoC) here today.
He was identified as Lance Naik Sarwan Lal (33) of 43 Rashtriya Rifle. He hailed from Jaipur in Rajesthan.
He was posted at Hanjan Gali in Tundi Trar area of the district. Police sources said he used his official firearm and shot one round through his temple at about 2 pm, resulting in his instant death.
After army informed police, concerned police post incharge Fareed Ahmad rushed to the spot and took the body in his possession, besides seizing the weapon of offence. Stress was stated to be the reason behind the incident.
A police officer said stress related disorders including domestic problems, long duty hours and leave related problems make security personnel to take extreme steps like committing suicide.
The body was shifted to the Rajouri district hospital for post-mortem. Police have started inquest proceedings under section 174 of CrPC.
