Fires caused massive loss to life & property in 2015

Srinagar, Mar 27 : In a shocking revelation, tragic fire incidents left 44 persons dead while 110 suffered injuries in Kashmir in the year 2105. Official data prepared by Fire and Emergency Services also revealed that the highest number of deaths were reported from Ganderbal district.
The data further revealed that the property worth 641. 45 crores suffered losses while 60 crore property completely razed to devastating ashes.
In Ganderbal district total of twenty people lost their lives while fifty four injured followed by six people in summer capital Srinagar with twenty five people injured in four hundred and forty six fire incidents.
With an estimated population of three lakh people, Ganderbal contains only six fire service stations to deal with such uncertainty. "The damage caused due to the tragic fire in Ganderbal is around 2.30 crores with eighty nine residential houses completely gutted besides 121 shops, 104 vehicles and 11 transformers damaged"
The report prepared by the fire and emergency authorities has bewildered experts who believe that the valley still takes next hundred years to get sophisticated technology to deal with fire incidents.
"In Srinagar which is also summer capital of the state holds 13 fire stations to deal with fire incidents, the district has estimated population of thirteen lakh people which suffered losses worth twenty two crores in four hundred and forty six incidents with 345 structures, 28 vehicles, and 39 transformers were damaged"
Three persons also reported dead in four districts of south Kashmir including that of Pulwama, Shopian Kulgam and Anantnag.
Property worth 12. 53 crores also damaged in these districts with 2.17 crores in Kulgam, 4.48 crores in Anantnag, 4.24 crores in Pulwama and 1. 64 crores in Shopian.
A top official in Fire and Emergency Service department told 'Early Times' that the department had framed some new rules as the Fire Safety Act 1967 has become outmoded with the government sleeping over the issue since three years.
"We could improvise the system, provided the rules suggested by the department are implemented, we are waiting for government's approval which is yet to give green signal for their implementation," he added.
