Majid Nabi Early Times Report
srinagar, June 1: A septuagenarian Kashmiri Pandit suffering from cancer is running from pillar to post to get his proprietary land back in his hometown which has been allegedly grabbed by a land mafia with support of some revenue officials. At a time when the government is planning to construct composite colonies in valley for Kashmiri migrant Pandits, Girdari Lal Warikoo 70, of Sheeshgari Bagh, Hyderpora alleged that his ancestral land has been grabbed and he is receiving frequent threats from the encroacher for highlighting the issue. "I was young when we left Kashmir in 1990, we had some six kanals and eight marlasland in Sheeshgari Bagh, Hyderpora. We sold four kanals out of the total land while rest of two kanals and eight marlas were under our possession, when we visited last time we were crestfallen to see that the remaining land had been grabbed," Warikoo's son Ajay Warikoo told Early Times. "My father cannot talk as he is suffering from acute mouth cancer, I am a working with a private company and living in a rented room, we have nothing to lose now, according to revenue records my father is the owner of two kanals and nine marlasland, however Tehsildar is creating hurdles to get our land back," He added. With tears trickling down his wrinkled face Girdari Lal wrote on a notebook "Abdul Khaliq is threatening us, all officials threatened murder" Ajay claimed that even Revenue Minister, Syed Basharat Bukhari reprimanded Tehsildar and asked him to constitute a team for demarcation of land "however the corrupt Tehsildar is supporting encroachers by consuming time" When contacted Tehsildar Shahbaz Bodha said, "I told them to get revenue records and if you are receiving threats from anyone we will demark the land under supervision of police, I insist them to bring a copy of revenue record." Ajay claimed that his father has been visiting Kashmir every year although his health deteriorated the moment when he found his ancestral land grabbed. "We were threatened and did not allowed to take the possession of the land, we want justice, if we are permanent citizens of Kashmir then government must deliver justice and take the encroachers to task,'' said Ajay. He said that they will bring the matter into the consideration of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon for redressal "I appeal the government to come forward to help us come of this dilemma "
