Early Times Report Poonch, June 1: Lac of facilities, poor infrastructure and staff shortage affectd education in Govt Higher Secondary School, Harni one of the oldest schools in Mendhar town sources said here today. Over 400 students strength is being accommodated in only 14 classrooms and 13 lecturers were running the while show of the school. The school is one of the oldest schools in the town said a local, adding but the infrastructure has not been upgraded. The subjects of Physics is not being taught in the school for the last 5 years where as Zoology subject not being taught for the last 3 years, sources said, adding the computer lab is nowhere in the sight while as the Science laboratory which has old type instruments and equipments does not serve the purpose of the sources further added. They said, two additional Science Labs/Science rooms were being constructed by the Public Works Deptt (PWD) but some two years ago they left the construction work unfinished and incomplete for the reasons best known to them, they added. Parents of the students alleged that their wards want to teach computer subject which has become an essential need in the life right now but our pleas fall flat to deaf ears and authorities do not pay need to genuine demands, they said even the four bathrooms in the school are non functional but nothing Is being done in the regard. The parents and students demanded that Environmental Science, Persian and Islamic studies be also introduced in the school curricular, sources said. While talking to Early Times the District Development Commissioner Poonch MH Malik said that Chief Education Officer (CEO) has been directed to pay the visit of the and take stock of the situation there, adding the CEO as soon as submits his report to this office measure will be taken accordingly to quope up with the situation, the DDC added. Meanwhile, Mendhar Youth Association Chairman Mohd Rameez Raja has appealed to Director School Education Jammu and Minister for Education to provide the facilities to the said school so that the locals youth of this far-flung area can be able to find themselves in civilized society, he added. |
