Now, Omar uses Kashmiri card in his latest theatrics | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 12: J&K's former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in a desperate attempt to get into the power, is now trying to appease the ruling PDP by his 'pro-Kashmir' statements. In one of his recent statements, Omar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had snubbed Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed during his address at a rally in Srinagar on November 7. The National Conference working president said in his tweet, "Prime Minister snubbed an elected Chief Minister during his Public Meeting in Srinagar when the Prime Minister said he did not require anyone's advice on the Kashmir Issue after the Chief Minister's speech." Obviously, the former CM is apparently trying to send a message that Prime Minister Modi has 'insulted' a Kashmiri leader, and that being a fellow Kashmiri it was not acceptable to him. "Omar is trying to play the Kashmiri card to get into the power and dislodge the BJP, though it's a another matter that Omar had been a minister in the BJP-led NDA. It's height of desperation and divisive politics played by Omar," said a senior PDP leader, wishing not to be named. Omar, yet to come to terms with his party's humiliating defeat in last year's Assembly elections, had even on the day of results of the polls announced that his party will extend support to the PDP to keep the BJP out of the power. Political observers say Omar's statement is a reflection of his approach of seeing himself as a Kashmiri and keep its hegemony over Jammu region as has been done by his family all through. "Omar has always favoured Kashmir over Jammu. The NC has always assumed that hegemony of Kashmir has to be kept and it's for this exclusive approach that his party was decimated by the PDP, which has more inclusive approach and decided to go with the BJP against all odds and declined any assumed or superficial friendship and support of the NC," said the PDP leader. |
