Keeps old Zero bridge closed for public to extend easy access to Nawa-e-Subh
R&B Minister's largesse to Opposition NC

Early Times Report
srinagar, Nov 12: While general public in Srinagar is getting weary of vexed traffic jams, R&B Ministry led by Altaf Bukhari has kept old Zero bridge closed for general public, reportedly with a purpose of extending undue ease and access to National Conference headquarters Nawa -e-Subh.
Sources divulged that despite spending crores over the renovation of the old Zero Bridge in Srinagar, the R&B Minister has decided not to open it for vehicular movement as the site is located closer to the NC headquarter and the Minister is more concerned about NC's safety than the hardships being faced by the general public due to turbulent traffic chaos.
Reports divulge that at a time when the streets of Srinagar's centre Lal Chowk are virtually chocked due to the heavy traffic, the bridge was expected to distribute the vehicular traffic substantially.
But ironically, as months have passed since the old Zero Bridge was renovated and crores of rupees out of the public exchequer were spent for the purpose, the bridge is yet to be opened for the general public.
There are reports that due to the headquarter of the opposition national conference, Nawa-e-Subh, located in the close vicinity of the site, its inauguration is likely to be delayed in the near future. Despite being the opposition party in the State, NC has used its good offices so that the bridge could not be opened for the vehicular movement . "They (NC) wants this bridge to be opened for the pedestrian movement only. They are apprehensive of attacks if the bridge is thrown open for the vehicular movement as its head office Nawa-e-Subh lies in closer vicinity of the site," sources said, adding that the delay in its inauguration is otherwise uncalled for.
Sources maintained further that despite the fact that there are always perturbing traffic jams in the city, National Conference never ever allowed the old Zero bridge to be thrown open for the vehicular traffic. "Political parties are concerned about their own safety and they don't even give a damn to what hardships people witness. The fact is that NC has never allowed vehicles to move over the old Zero bridge. It will never allow this to happen," says a Rajbagh resident.
But as the new Government assumed office on the high moral ground- claiming to eradicate the past mistakes and transforming the society into the better one, the closure of old Zero bridge despite crores of rupees incurred open its renovation is enough to puncture the change balloon.
If sources are to be believed, National Conference has again dominated itself over the decision making of the present regime and has asked it to think of the political class and its safety first and then for the general masses. Ironically, R&B Ministry is apparently going the NC way- leaving Srinagar to chaos sans any remorse.
Expressing resentment over Government's such erratic attitude, the locals of the Raj Bagh and adjacent areas say the dispensation has been with the deliberate attempts leaving the people of the city in lurch- exposing them to the worst traffic jams and chaotic times.
President of the Raj Bagh Development Front said due to the closure of the old Abdullah Bridge, Srinagar has been deliberately pushed towards worst traffic jams. He said that the locals of the area have already appraised the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti about such 'irrational attitude' of the concerned authorities and the responsible Ministry.
