H&M Edu Deptt "violates" Apex Court's ruling 'portraying VVIPs' | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 12: The State Health and Medical Education Department, in utter violation of the Supreme Court direction as regards the government ads to portray VVIPS (with some exceptional cases), has issued an advertisement, glorifying the minister for health and medical education. The minister is admired because J&K has received the No 1 state award in health sector in the country. Here it needs to be mentioned that SC has banned the use of photographs of politicians, including Chief Ministers, Ministers and Leaders of ruling parties in the government ads. "A large hoarding bearing the pictures of Chief Minister, Health Minister and his deputy has been erected at Bikram Chowk in violation of the SC order," sources alleged. Sources alleged that this also violated another court order, barring companies to the fix hoardings along National Highways as SC in 1997 and Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1998 had passed orders to remove hoardings and advertisements from roadsides as these were considered hazardous and an impediment to safe movement of traffic. Sources said J&K got No 1 state award in health sector in the country and just to celebrate the achievement, the Health and Medical Education Department without giving a second thought to the Apex Court's directions not only erected big hoardings in and around the city but also wasted the tax payers' money by organizing events and erecting a large hoarding at Bikram Chowk. Sources in Health Department alleged that the minister along with some officials were nowadays busy to make plans for celebrations. All the money would be spent from the government exchequer on these programmes, the sources alleged. Sources alleged that instead of spending amount on the health care of the State for improving the present ailing heath sector especially in Jammu province where shortage of basic drugs in the hospitals is allegedly reported, the officials concerned, were spending huge amount on unrequired functions. Secretary for Health and Medical Education Department MK Bhandari could not be contacted despite repeated attempts. |
