Two militants surrender to police | LeT receives major setback | | Majid Nabi Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 12: Dreaded militant outfit Lashker-e-Toiba received a major ‘setback’ in Srinagar when two of its militant’s surrendered before the police in Harwan a few days ago. Reliable police sources confirmed that two newly recruited upper ground militants both belonging to New Theed Harwan have surrendered before the police while intensive search operations by the joint team of Police, SOG and army was conducted in the area. Sources said that there is good activity of LeT militants in upper Harwan and Dachigam forests convincing local youth to join militant ranks. “Parents of the duo who surrendered had filed a missing report in police station Harwan. It has been almost one month since missing report was filed. One of the militants capitulate a month back while another appeared before the police on 9th of this month,” sources told ‘Early Times’. The surrendered militants have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Ahangar son Abdul Rehman Ahangar 22 and Manzoor Ahmad Bhat son of Late Abdul Ahad Bhat 26 both residents of New Theed Harwan. They said that the duo admitted before the police during interrogation that they had joined LeT outfit and were roaming in Dachigam forests during these days. Sources claimed that no arms or any adverse material was recovered from their possession, although names of other youth who have joined militant ranks in the area are expected to come to fore. Contrary to earlier reports that there are less number or no militants active in summer capital, the surrender of two youth belonging to dreaded LeT outfit has put the city in ‘red zone’ area. “Both of the youth are presently lodged at Special Operation Group headquarters and investigations are on to bust their hiding place,” they claimed. If sources are to be believed there is good number of militants in Dachigam and New Theed areas that ensures safe passage for them to reach Awantipora and Pattan the hub of militancy. “We conducted intensified search operations in the area however no breakthrough was made. Militants who were hiding in bushy forests might have been informed about the operations beforehand,” sources said. It may be mentioned that local youth joining militant ranks were more active in South Kashmir and parts of North Kashmir. “Since the militants are active in South Kashmir, the frequency of encounters in the region has also increased,” Militants of the Hizbul Mujahideen, LeT and the Jaish-e-Mohammad are active in South Kashmir comprising Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag districts, he added. |
