Modi’s silence on agenda of alliance hurts coalition | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 12: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s silence on ‘agenda of alliance’ is hurting the coalition, political experts believe. It has been learnt that Modi stays informed about the agenda being undermined by the ruling coalition. “Modi is much aware about the ground situation of the state and its present performance. The reality is that the BJP high command and the union government are dismayed about the way the government is being run by the helmsmen in JK,” sources within the coalition divulged. It has been learnt further that though there was no approval accorded to the agenda of alliance by the Prime Minister’s office or by the union Finance Ministry, it was still presented as a gospel before the people of the state at the time of government formation in JK. Besides publishing the content of the agreement in every news daily, the coalition here strived to sell it with all possible efforts. Ironically what is being witnessed on ground at present is how both the ruling partners of the state have pushed, what they earlier used to term a ‘vital document’, under the carpet- undermining its every word and forgetting its every line. As per the alliance agenda which was signed by both PDP and the BJP, the State Government will be transformed into a Smart Government which will be proactive, transparent and accountable. It will be reformed and redesigned to be an enabler for business and a strategic partner for long term private sector growth. Ironically, despite completing 8 months in office, there is no visible development being witnessed over such a claim. On the political grounds, the agenda of alliance stated that the union government has recently initiated several steps to normalise the relationship with Pakistan. The coalition government will seek to support and strengthen the approach and initiatives taken by the government to create a reconciliatory environment and build stakes for all in the peace and development within the sub-continent. “The same will be pursued by taking confidence building measures such as, enhancing people to people contact on both sides of the LoC encouraging civil society exchanges, taking travel, commerce, trade and business across the LoC to the next level and opening new routes across all three regions to enhancing connectivity,” the document reads. Pertinently, during Modi’s recent visit to the state and addressing the rally at Srinagar there was a least mention of any such issue which was mentioned earlier in the agenda of alliance. What could put in trouble both the ruling partners of the state is the undermining of the alliance agenda and making it least important for the union government that it could get a mention in PM’s speech.
