Early Times Report

Sunderbani, Nov 12: The one KM road from Makol Mandir to Barnada in district Rajouri, tehsil Sunderbani that was taken up for repair work and had got completed just few months back has caved in giving nightmarish time to the commuters.
The road has sunk nearly one foot down with many depressions having surfaced on its entire length which apparently show the sub-standard material used by the contractor to make the road. As per the requirement , the crushed stone of 40mm to 60mm thickness is required to metal the road, but here big boulders of 6inch to 12 inch were used and tar missed with silt and mud was plastered which could not bear the brunt of rainfalls as the road was washed away from many places leaving many potholes in it.
Divisional Engineer Noushera Vikram Singh gave a very unconcerned reply as to how the low-grade contractors were hired for the roads macmadisation.
It is pertinent to mention here that even the roads and building minister was sounded about the corrupt practice adopted by the contractors in connivance with the department on which the minister had directed the divisional Engineer to pursue the work religiously to which the DE again gave no audience.
Senior Engineer Rajouri Majid Wani however took the cognizance of the matter when the situation of the dilapidated roads’ pictures was sent to him on his whatsapp. “ I have seen the conditions of the roads . I will go on the spot and personally take cognizance of the matter and block the payment of the contractors until the damage is not controlled. If need arose , a departmental enquiry would also initiated against the culprits, “ assured the SE Majid Wani. The estimated cost of construction of one kilometer road from Makol Mandir to Barnada is 6 lacs and as per sources less than half of the amount has been used in its construction.
