Srinagar, Dec 16: The Army today ordered an independent probe into the disappearance of two missing persons of frontier district Kupwara after different versions regarding the incident started surfacing. In order to tackle different versions surfacing in connection with disappearance of two residents of Kupwara namely Ghulam Jeelani Khatana and Mir Hussain Khatana since November 17, Army today ordered an independent probe to dig truth behind the mystery. Talking to Reporters here in Srinagar, General Officer Commanding (GoC) of Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Lt Gen Satish Dua said that "like always in such matters, this time too our own investigation is on and if it is found that anyone has done something wrong, army will not play favourites." "Army is committed to zero tolerance for human rights violations and that is why whenever any such incident takes place of which police or judiciary has taken cognizance, army also institutes investigation." General Officer Commanding (GoC) of Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Lt Gen Satish Dua said Lieutenant Gen Dua was responding to a question whether the army, at its own level, has ordered any inquiry into the alleged abduction case for which a Territorial Army (TA) personnel namely Manzoor Ahmad Khwaja, has been arrested by the police last week. Pertinently Ghulam Jeelani Khatana (42), and Mir Hussain Khatana (45) and all residents of Kupwara district, have been reported missing since November 17 when they had left home reportedly to work as porters with the Army in a nearby area and one Army soldier presently in Police Lock up is accused in their Abduction. The independent probe by Army came at a time when two different versions surfaced regarding the disappearance of these three people and probe ordered is in addition to inquiry launched by Jammu and Kashmir Police. On version of story is that missing persons were last seen with local Territorial Army (TA) personnel namely Manzoor Ahmad Khwaja who is in Police custody and after that very day they are missing. Another version is that all the three missing persons may have crossed over to Line of Control as the area is known for infiltrations attempts by militants from across the border. State government has already initiated a probe in to the disappearance of missing persons and Jammu and Kashmir police is inquiring the matter and has already detained one local Army Personal. Pertinently on another issue of Firing Range in Bajpathri Area, GoC said the army would reconsider the decision of having a firing range in Bajpathri if it causes more hardships to people. He said that last year Army closed down Tosamaidan in Budgam district and handed it back to state administration and as Bajpathri is one of the alternatives find out by officers but if it is going to cause more hardships than the advantages then Army will reconsider on its decision as well. |
