Early Times Report

jammu, Dec 16: Crucial from the defence point of view, the strategically important Basohli bridge has been caught up in sort of controversies ahead of its inauguration. Everything is in order and preparations set for inauguration scheduled any day next week, the clash is at the political level with two senior ministers of BJP caught up in war of nerves to organise the inaugural function in their own way.
Sources said while the concerned Defence authorities are waiting keenly for the inauguration of this strategic link by Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar any time soon after Parliament session concludes, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and Health Minister Lal Singh are virtually locking horns to take lead in organizing things the way they want so as to take credit for this high profile project to their individual political kitties.
Since the bridge falls in Kathua district from where the two BJP leaders have won in two Assembly constituencies, they are engaged in a kind of one up manship game for the inauguration function which is going to be a high profile show in presence of country's Defence Minister, said the sources. The bridge has been completed and is ready for inauguration. It is actually an inter-state connectivity bridge over river Ravi on Ranjit Sagar dam linking J&K to Punjab and Himachal Pradesh via Basohli , which is why it is widely known as the Basohli bridge. As both the ministers hail from the same district, by linking their names with the project, they want to get projected as 'hero' of Basohli, said the sources adding that this war of nerves is percolating down to the level of their supporters besides dividing the cadres and workers of the party in the district.
Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister , it is now widely known do not get along well despite being from the same party in the alliance government. While Lal Singh has been trying to show his superiority and supremacy on what he claims to be having more experience than Dr Nirmal Singh in the government, the latter is throwing his weight on him on the basis of his post and position in the government. With Nirmal Singh facing some controversies in his ministries and the talk of his replacement having become rife, Lal Singh has eyeing , rather desperately trying to grab the post of Deputy Chief Minister in the alliance government, which is one of the reasons of growing bitterness and bickering between the two, sources further said. Basohli bridge has become only latest issue and version of this bitterness taking a new high , with both pulling the shape of the event to be seen and organised to their liking, sources added.
